The police apparently confiscated the rifle from the homeowner as "evidence". This would leave him disarmed and vulnerable to retaliation from the relatives and friends of the robbers.

I hope the homeowner has some backup weapons.

It is an abomination that they are holding a "community vigil" for those teens. That speaks volumes about the real values of anyone who attends, and provides an object lesson in the need for ordinary citizens to be armed at all times.

Everybody involved was Black, so they cannot whine about racism.

I realize I'm inferring, but what was the explanation for a homeowner to be out in his yard with loaded rifle of large caliber at 4AM?

(IOWs, he wasn't plinking at raccoons...)

I haven't read that detail anywhere yet. Do you know this from reportage about the homeowner, or are you deducing it from the lack of violent denunciations at the remembrance?

Hopefully the event is being used as instructive to the other neighborhood teens who think it's all good fun to roll up on people at 4:00 in the morning to rob them.
