Journalist John Solomon has rocked the Washington media world by announcing his departure from the Hill newspaper and the Hill.TV brand he created to start his own media firm.
In a memo to his team, Solomon wrote, After two-plus amazing years at Hill.TV I am moving on next month to build my own startup media company.
He did not reveal any details about his future plans for an online media site.
In his memo, he praised the Hill, his TV group, and Capitol Hill Publishing Chairman James A. Finkelstein. With Jimmy's vision and your continued great work, I am confident Hill.TV is destined for even greater success in the future, Solomon wrote.
Long an investigative reporter for the Associated Press, the 52-year-old reporter over the past decade has worked to push the Washington Times into profitability, started Circa, was president of Packard Media Group, and also headed the Center for Public Integrity, which investigates politicians and funding.
The well-traveled Solomon was an investigative reporter at the Washington Post before he was named executive editor of the Washington Times in 2008.
In July 2017, he was named executive vice president of the Hill.
He has become well-known on TV, frequently appearing on Sean Hannitys Fox show to discuss the Russia-Trump investigation and related stories.

He’s a great reporter. I wish him the best.
I sure hope John Solomon has the backing of a billionaire who appreciates all the good he has done and his potential future.
John needs to focus on his excellent work and not be burdened by the stress of managing a company. I sure wouldn’t want him to end up like Breitbart.
Prolly backed by Hannity
Excellent. The Hill alternates between being a sewer and being modestly credible. I never understood the fit between The Hill & Solomon.
I don’t blame him. If you read the comments on any of his articles at the Hill, you will see that they are vile. None address the facts in his articles, they simple spew the usual “Russia, Russia, Orange man bad” mantra. The people commenting are simply brutal to Solomon. He has done some great reporting and it appears to me he gets hardly any support from other writers on that site. It is time for him to move on.
Oh, and add a conservative social media arm to it, too, or fuggedaboutit.

I’ll bet Hannity $ as well. Sean is always extra careful to introduce John as EXEC. VP of The Hill. It sounded unnecessary and this may have had something to do with it. Solomon didn’t seem like the kind of guy who would demand his lofty title be used continually. Sean was pumping him up.
Ok. This makes sense
The Hill-O-Beans.
He needed to get away from the Shill!!
Hannity support.
A stable of investigative reporters including Sara Carter.
Relocating out of NY, away from the Murdoch's. and NY taxes.
The Murdoch's can't be too troublesome with Fox's evening ratings as strong as they are, but we can assume they don't see eye to eye.

Atkinson writes for the Hill as well.....That can’t be a good fit.
He’s a superstar. I think he will do great, and we will all be the better for it.
Libs will hate it, because they hate facts, and that is John Solomon’s stock in trade.
Correction, Attkisson...my bad.
The Hill is a liberal. cesspool. Glad hes leaving. I hated giving clicks to that site.
“I hope he becomes the next Roger Ailes and creates a true conservative government accountability media complex.”
Ailes was a media executive. John Solomon is a reporter and a good one, but I doubt that he has any experience running a media outfit any bigger than a one man show.
One who won't double-cross him.
Keep in mind that Jim VandeHei (from the Washington Post) did it with Politico and Axios. Solomon is probably thinking that he can do it, too.
