Republican Rep. Paul Cook (Calif.) will retire from Congress at the end of this term and run for a seat on the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors, the Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday.

He is the 17th House Republican lawmaker to announce they will not seek reelection in 2020.

Cook was first elected to his House seat in California's 8th Congressional District in 2012, and sits on both the House Armed Services Committee and Natural Resources Committee.

No its not that. They really do not feel they are going to take back the house in 2020. Defeatism.

Am I the only one who thinks maybe so many republicans are retiring because they believe it is a safe time to do so? They are confident that a red wave or even red consistency will keep their district in safe hands?

Yes you are. :)

I think they suspect they may not get the House back, and are sick to death of being 100% irrelevant. This is NOT like previous times where the DemoKKKrats held the House but at least considered GOP bills or allowed the GOP to participate.

This is pure thuggery tyranny. I just think a lot don’t see any hope of it changing.
