WASHINGTON — Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez plans on Tuesday to announce her endorsement of Marie Newman, a progressive candidate seeking to oust Representative Daniel Lipinski, a conservative-leaning Illinois Democrat, marking her first move of the 2020 campaign cycle to back a primary challenger to an incumbent.
Ms. Ocasio-Cortez’s high-profile support amounts to a powerful seal of approval, telegraphed to her legions of ardent liberal fans, on behalf of Ms. Newman, and a reflection of the zeal of the party’s progressive left to leverage its nascent power to continue targeting sitting Democrats.
Ms. Newman is backed by Justice Democrats, the group that propelled Ms. Ocasio-Cortez’s insurgent campaign and upset victory last year over a veteran Democratic congressman who she argued was out of step with his constituents. A businesswoman who has described herself as “a real Democrat,” Ms. Newman also ran in 2018 against Mr. Lipinski and lost by about 2,000 votes.
“Marie Newman is a textbook example of one of the ways that we could be better as a party — to come from a deep blue seat and to be championing all the issues we need to be championing,” Ms. Ocasio-Cortez said in an interview.
Of Mr. Lipinski, she said: “The fact that a deep blue seat is advocating for many parts of the Republican agenda is extremely problematic. We’re not talking about a swing state that is being forced to take tough votes.”
Mr. Lipinski, 53, bills himself in his campaign ads as “a workhorse, not a show horse,” and the eight-term congressman, who opposes abortion rights and voted against the Affordable Care Act, has repeatedly expressed his concerns that it is “detrimental” for the party to push out conservative lawmakers.

This is not a good thing. What we’re witnessing is the Democrat purge. Strict allegiance to socialist goals is required. This leftward movement of the Democrats will leave Americans with very stark choices in elections.
The problem for us, is that Americans under 40 believe what they’ve been taught in school, and what they see on social media, that capitalism is inherently unfair and evil.
One day, probably within the remaining time I have left, the left will seize power in America. God help us all when it happens.
In all of the NYT’s effusive praise of Kotex and exaggeration of her considerable influence, they left off “DUMBASS”.

Glad to see the Dems trying to kill each other off. It’ll be interesting to see if the few moderate Dems who remain will similarly fund an effort to oust Ms. Jackass teeth. I don’t think that they will, nor would they be successful if they did. Her constituents are too stupid, and too entitled.
When (IMHO it isn’t an “if” question) she and the other radicals succeed in driving the few remaining moderates out of the Party, it’ll be interesting* to see if the then hyper-radicalized Dem Party is ever capable of winning the House, Senate or White House. The radicals will (again IMHO) have essentially succeeded in creating a third party.
* “Interesting” in the Chinese curse sense of that word. We do live in interesting times, and if these radicals/Communists ever get meaningful power, there will almost certainly be a civil war - because they will crash the economy by trying to confiscate wealth (via taxes and regulations, not outright confiscations - yet), and also attempt to register all guns (if that hasn’t been done already) and then confiscate them. Historically, that hasn’t worked out so well in this country...but they don’t know anything about History.
Her handlers are smart in strategy, if not dumb in their ideas on what form of government is best.
Pick the safest districts for a democrat to be elected, then push the most socialist democrat you can find so they can claim victories when they happen and ignore defeats (a democrat will likely still hold onto the seat if the socialist loses so the donor base won’t be as alarmed by the socialist activists.)
Strategically, and I hope the socialists are as blind to this as they are the history of socialism, it’s a loser. The more they shift the party left, and demand strict loyalty to socialist ideology, the more they turn off traditional democrat constituencies and make Dem leaning swing districts more competitive to republican challengers.
Eventually, I suspect the more mainstream Democrats and squishy republicans will realize they can run to the center on a democrat-lite platform (a la Clinton post 1994) and they’ll split off to form their own party

A large percentage of Democrats consider AOC an embarrassing joke. I don’t think that constitutes a “powerful seal of approval”.
Excellent question. They show her no respect for her experience, contributions to the Dem Party or age. Flippantly arrogant from day one in their first week in Congress. Deciding which bills to back---instead of asking for Pelosi's strategic decisions (as when others expect pork payoffs).
Good. Which third and fourth party names will we see later? Democratic Socialists. Communist America. Democratic Future. The Whigs. The Mugwumps. Maybe not the last two.

The four members of the Squad took out the trade mark registration, including all merchandising, likeness and symbols. Just seemed to suit them so well they couldn't resist. They get choice over actors to portray them.
Ballot symbol will be AOC's empty head with marks of wind blowing into one ear and out the other.
