[Thank you for making my entire point. If we are not willing to commit to “War” we should stop talking about it. Riling folks up to commit to something called war but isn’t ends up a bloody, inconsequential mess. We already have one hole in the ground with 58,000 names on it.]

Again, there’s a wide spectrum of war. Just because we don’t execute thieves any more doesn’t mean we shouldn’t put them in prison. Just because we’re not prepared to invade and occupy Iran doesn’t mean we shouldn’t strike their military and industrial assets. Preying Mantis, in which half of Iran’s navy was sunk or damaged in the course of 24 hours, was a reasonable operation that kept the Iranians from attacking Gulf shipping for decades. Israel’s attack on Osirak nuclear reactor kept Saddam from ever developing a working nuclear weapon.

You’ve confused war with nation-building. We can bounce the rubble at a much lower cost.

So if we are going to pursue a glorified game for tag I supppose the proper reaction would be cripple Iran’s oil production. Which we don’t need to do because our sanctions IIRC have already done that.
