Yep.
My wife is a teacher. They took her opportunity for tenure when she had 9 years in.
Michigan raided teacher pension funds, then demonized them for complaining.
Teachers are not allowed to strike(disrupting school days) {As far as I know, teachers are the only union in Michigan not allowed to strike.}
My wife's District has allowed her to receive a less than 1% raise/year,and had her pay frozen for about a decade.
Michigan requires 6( I think) credit hours to be taken by teachers to maintain their license(not reimbursed)over 5 years.( this one is easy because of many options.)
Teacher's yearly reviews are based on student test scores
(how would you like your performance to be based on tests taken by people who don't care?)
Teachers had to sue the State to get their pensions back; Michigan took the case all the way to the Michigan Supreme Court(took more than 7 years to get half a billion of stolen money back)
Now Michigan is talking about raiding their pension again to help balance the State budget.
It does not suprise me that the top-heavy district is refusing to do anything. Cream is not the only thing to rise to the top. Special-Ed students are a protected class who can do no wrong, and nothing ids their fault.( It also doeds not hurt that they bring in more money the the District from the State.)
Law and order is breaking down across the state, not just big cities. It does not suprise me that the Justice System is refusing to do its job.
Did not mean to be wordy. Thanks for letting me vent

Some local schools make it a practice to deny tenure. You work for them for four years and then you’re out looking for work. The schools look at this practice as an advantage to thembeginning teachers get less pay and they don’t have to go through the trouble of showing ‘cause’ for getting rid of someone.
Missouri teachers are not allowed to strike by law, but teachers in StL and KC sometimes do anyway.
My teaching certificate is for ‘Life’ so I didn’t have to take the Mickey Mouse classes to retain it. For several years MO had certificates that had to be renewed but I think they’ve dropped that idea. To be honest, most of the ‘great new ideas’ in education have proven to be disastrous for both the students and the teachers.
Since I taught an ‘unimportant subject’history, my students didn’t have to take tests on it, so I was immune to pressure on that score.
Happily, my state legislature, despite making noises, has thus far kept its mitts off MO teachers’ pensions.
