This is a national problem (with various other foreigners substituted for “Somali”), and the inevitable result of a negative birthrate for Americans. Rather than close up/shut down as California ghost towns did in centuries past (when the gold veins were tapped out), there is a concerted effort to maintain the government worker caste in these dead areas - so foreign populations are trafficked here to fill them. In my town in NJ it is primarily South Americans; they are shipped in, immigration laws are ignored, and they fill the schools (THAT is the main purpose in bringing them here - keeping the public schools populated). Costs (taxes) continue to rise, and they in no way pay a proportionate share - so Americans flee, and no young Americans buy homes here due to the costs and eventually, the demographics. Rinse, lather, repeat - across the whole country.
As long as Americans won’t breed, this situation will worsen by the minute; they also won’t need houses for families they don’t have, so any developed area consisting primarily of single-family homes are “darkening” quickly. The young Americans maintain a degree of mobility allowing them to escape the clutches (and local tax burdens) of the Third Worlders, but eventually will have no refuge.

The funny thing is when they went to Portland to research building the Somali Trolley, they failed to talk with residence who use it.
Just like MN, it is how gangs and drugs are transported everywhere in the city as there is nothing to “confiscate” if caught.
The people of Portland would have told them this if anyone bothered to listen.
In the average White college graduate or White college student as far as I can tell, there is none. What they do have is a deep loathing hatred and shame of themselves because they happen to be White. Also, instead of an instinct for survival, they have a strong desire to commit suicide. Or that is the way I see it.

Nods. We almost bought in Elk River two years back.
But Good Lord, they wanted to call homes "custom" for having six-inch baseboards painted white, and oversized stair railings, and charge $350,000 for what was otherwise, very ordinary housing, not even McMansion, more like Whopper Jr.
We went somewhere else instead: not as far out as you though.
As far as I'm concerned, we got a steal with a diamond in the rough, while downsizing. :-)
we got 5 acres of land, a 10 year old 2550 sq ft home, a 40x40 pole barn and a dead end road near milaca for 240..
Now it’s probably worth close to 4 with the citiots moving out this way and ruining the schools.
We are looking at Onamia or Garrison now.
Ageing family - which seems to be the only reason people stay.
When I was younger we had a lot of retirees living around us; they can no longer afford to remain in their homes due to the property taxes, so retiring workers started moving out.
Now they don’t even wait; they leave when their last children finish high school and/or the last older family member dies.
