Ted Cruz: Trump Will Lose in 2020 if He Cuts Deal on Gun Control
Bretibart ^ | 13 Sep 2019 | AWR HAWKINS

Posted on 09/13/2019 9:41:43 PM PDT by conservative98

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) warned that President Trump will lose in 2020 if he cuts a deal with Democrats regarding gun control.

Roll Call reports that Cruz offered this observation while speaking to reporters at a Thursday breakfast. He contended that conservative voters will stay home if Trump and the Republicans as a whole cave to Democrat demands.

He was asked about the possibility of Trump making a deal with gun control stalwarts Sens. Chris Murphy (D-CT) and Joe Manchin (D-WV).

Cruz said, “We’re going to see record-setting Democratic turnout. The only element missing is demoralizing conservatives so they stay home. I hope we don’t do that.”

He also noted, “If Republicans abandon the Second Amendment and demoralize millions of Americans who care deeply about Second Amendment rights, that could go a long way to electing a President Elizabeth Warren.”

Cruz also suggested it would be a big mistake for Trump to voice support for the Democrats’ background check bill, saying, “It would also be a serious mistake as a policy matter.”

You are correct. We are up to our eyeballs in them. The next one will be the straw that breaks the camel’s back.

“Their evil intent is to get Trump to DO SOMETHING (that kills his chances of re-election).”

You nailed it! Hope that PDJT realizes this.

By what percentage did Trump win over Hillary in 2016?

Across the US, by a negative amount of the popular vote and an overwhelming amount of the Electoral College vote, but was expected to lose both by virtually all the polls. For Texas, Trump won by 9% over Hillary.

Who knows, Perhaps John Bolton would have some insight into what Cruz’ was feeling at the convention.

LOL! Trump only said he had accepted Bolton’s resignation through that initial set of days. If you are saying Bolton’s feelings are hurt because he was asked for his resignation, then maybe we need to determine what sort of emotionally-stunted people we are dealing with in Bolton or Cruz. Heck, all Trump did was leverage a National Enquirer report for one Cruz “issue” and comment on Cruz’s wife after a pro-Cruz PAC published nude photos of Melania.

All of this boils down to whether we place principles over persons. Cheeto Jesus versus the Bill of Rights.

Again, what has “Cheeto Jesus” done against the Bill of Rights?

Sadly, Ted’s likely right about that.

POTUS is a deal maker. He is also a cunning manipulator. I’d put the odds of him making this deal at 50-50, hoping in my bones I am wrong and he stands firm.

I think your allegations are factually inaccurate. In any case, it is the most elastic of stretches to equate murder with your allegations and even worse to argue that one minor misdemeanor equates to a capital felony.

It is factually correct. You just don’t recall because you supported Cruz and it was no skin off your back when Cruz attacked Trump over Chicago or his father hit Trump on the campaign trail. I run in to the same with Democrats, btw. None of them remember all the awful things Obama said about Republicans.

Cruz’s father was an active campaign surrogate and was completely fair game given that.

At the convention almost the entire Texas delegation tried to do a coup to keep Trump from the nomination with our state party chair leading the charge. There are many many Cruzlims in Texas who refused to vote for Trump in the general and the rift has continued to divide the Texas GOP. Not to mention the Bushes have operatives in Austin like Karl Rove advising the State Party. Lots of Nevertrumpers.

I don't think Trump is playing 3D chess but I trust Trump 100%; a lot more than I do Cruz btw. That trust I have in him will continue until I see something otherwise from him.

Bump stocks. The majority of people never even knew what they were until the Vegas shooting yet that is the first thing mentioned when trying to justify a premature decision of 'not' voting for Trump (otherwise known as a kneejerk reaction to a comment).

I am taking a wait and see approach.

all Trump did was leverage a National Enquirer report for one Cruz “issue” and comment on Cruz’s wife after a pro-Cruz PAC published nude photos of Melania.

A third-party accuses an adversary of murder and "all Trump does is leverage the report."

Really?

Millennia got herself photographed in the nude by a third-party and "all Trump does" is humiliate a poor woman's physical attributes.

Really?

Again, what has “Cheeto Jesus” done against the Bill of Rights?

Selective quoting is something we associate with the application for a FISA warrant. The next (unquoted) sentence of my reply reads:

As of now, there is no conflict between Donald Trump and the Bill of Rights.

“Or, perhaps it had something to do with attacking the physical appearance of Cruz’ wife.”

You are the one who chose to use the term “Cheeto Jesus” for Trump after saying, “All of this boils down to whether we place principles over persons?”

So it’s not okay for Trump to use a physical appearance thing, but it’s okay for you to use it?

I’m fine with both of you using physical appearance in your positioning, but it is inconsistent for you.

As for “selectively quoting,” I specifically said, “Again...what has Cheeto Jesus done?” I wanted to drive you to say it “again,” and you did.

Cruz is right......and I hope POTUS listens.

Trump promised he would protect our Second Amendment rights, against a political party that wants us unarmed and defenseless.

If he goes back on that promise, he's going to lose a large portion of his base, because there will no longer be a difference between Trump, and the Socialists, in dismantling our right to defend ourselves.

Cruz is one of the most brilliant conservatives ever elected to office; yet he still lost and has been wrong about Trump on several key issues, like the Chinese tariffs and the Mexico tariff threat.

You are correct......but Cruz ISN'T wrong about Texas, when it comes to new gun laws.

How will POTUS win in 2020, if he loses Texas?

I wanted to drive you to say it “again,” and you did.

You take too much credit, you did not drive me to say it the first time, I volunteered it because it was right and proper.

The Cheeto Jesus remark comes from the saying "Cheeto Jesus Saves or Orange Man Bad" and has really very little to do with his appearance but much to do with the deification or demonization of Donald Trump. It is actually a comment on the equally reflexive mindlessness of his acolytes and detractors.

Pence clearly stated the administration has a gun control package in congress. He banned bumpstocks.. but the murders didn’t stop, he mentioned red flag rules.. he is clearly anti 2A. Nothing matters if only the criminals and government have weapons.

Shameful, especially when the alternative (evil HRC) would’ve been the end of America as we’ve known it for centuries. Texans would NOT have liked what the witch would’ve done to their state! The thought that the NeverTrumpers preferred that to Trump ... what is WRONG with people?
