Mets rookie first baseman Pete Alonso first wanted to get custom made baseball caps to honor 9/11, but Major League Baseball nixed that idea with a mile of red tape.
So Pete Alonzo set off on a different plan.
The Mets superstar rookie first baseman would buy each of his teammates custom-made cleats with different designs honoring the 9/11 first responders, and to heck with approval from MLB.
So, the Mets took the field Wednesday night at Citi Field wearing their 9/11 shoes to honor the victims, families and first responders.
On Pete Alonsos right cleat was an image of first responders raising an American flag amidst the rubble at Ground Zero. Around it were the red and white stripes of the flag, plus the names of New York City service agencies on site on Sept. 11, 2001 the NYPD, the FDNY and so many
