I think he may be referring to 7.62x39, but even that should be sufficient for deer hunting.

Isn’t there maybe 1 or 2 states that only allow bow and shotgun slugs only?
Where I live, a baseball bat is sufficient for deer hunting... but the state recommends at least a .308.
Makes sense but a 7.62x39 and a .30-30 are very similar and .30-30 has been effectively used for decades on deer and bigger game.
