You should hear the responses and see the looks when I refer to a child as a bastard.
I keep explaining to the folks that word is not describing the child; it is in fact describing the morals of the parents.
Even for a child borne of rape, the term is still a valid term. I hold the rapist responsible for the term having to be assigned to the birth situation of the child. It’s not the mother’s fault and it’s descriptive of the situation.
There may not be such a social stigma to single motherhood anymore but for a whole helluva lot of guys...especially ones who do not have kids and who are looking for the right girl to marry, her having somebody else's kid rules her out immediately. I had no interest in raising another man's child.
