The Coast Guard has so far freed three of the four crew members stuck in a capsized South Korea-owned cargo ship off the Georgia coast, officials said at a Monday afternoon news conference. Efforts to save the fourth, who is trapped on another deck, are continuing.
Earlier Monday, rescuers made contact with the four crew members stuck inside the South Korea-owned cargo ship that overturned and caught fire near a major port in Georgia over the weekend, the U.S. Coast Guard said.
The Golden Ray, a 656-foot vehicle carrier, listed "heavily" and then rolled over on its side early Sunday in St. Simons Sound near Brunswick, Ga., according to the Coast Guard.
Rescuers drilled a three inch hole overnight through the ship's hull and made contact with the four crew members, who had been listed as missing.
Coast Guard rescuers were able to find the four South Korean crew members by rappelling down the side and drilling the hole, according to the U.S. Coast Guard, which added that the rescue team communicated with the trapped sailors through the hole they drilled and also gave them food and water through the hole.
U.S. Coast Guard Capt. John Reed told reporters on Monday afternoon that the three saved crew members were in one area of the massive vessel and the fourth, who is currently being rescued, is stuck behind glass, enclosed in an engineering control room. Reed added that the three were able to get access to fresh air, food and water through the hole, but rescue crews were unable to reach the fourth crew member who was on another deck.

Dont forget to patch the hole before you right the ship! Theres a guy on TV who sells rubber in a spray can....
Good advice, I’d bet he’d even donate the Flex Seal. :^)
BUMP!
Local new Jacksonville has just had live coverage of the 4th crewman. Hes en route to hospital now. Initial live coverage showed him standing on the deck of the CG boat and smiling. Seems like a good rescue.
Excellent news, thank you for posting!
They’re a useful outfit! My daughter Anoreth got out after nine years. Now she’s going to college full time and works in an axe-throwing bar.
Another daughter is in the Marine Corps now. She’s in Okinawa, of course.
Go Coast Guard!!!
An axe-throwing bar?

Semper Fi to your Daughter :)
She is a Warrior!
Yes, a bar where the activity is axe-throwing, rather than darts or Trivia night. It’s like somebody’s Scandinavian nightmare come true, and I’m sure Anoreth’s Viking ship tattoo gets lots of compliments. She pours beer and teaches axe-throwing, and sometimes she makes $400 in tips in a weekend, “if there’s a big crowd of banker bros.”
I think she’s getting her degree in math, of all things!
Elen’s having a blast in the Marines. She’s already visited Australia.
Now who made the hard right turn?
Oh, thanks! I’ll have to share those with my mother!
Good for your daughters, FRiend!
I remember when you asked me to add Anoreth to the Sowell ping list, time flies...:^)
ABC just reported the 4th crew member was rescued.
Thanks, Bump!
Time flies, but Dr. Sowell is still kicking! I wonder if he would visit an axe-throwing bar ...
Oh, I have been dragged to those "banker bro's" outings, wish it would have been to an axe-throwing bar! ;)
What is Elen doing in the Marines? Glad she is having a great time :)
