RE: I am strangely suspicious of all the American flag waving.

Some possibilities:

1) The Chicoms have infiltrated the protests and is using this American flag waving to tell its citizens that the USA ( through the CIA and the NED ) is interfering in China’s internal affairs. This ties up nicely with the narrative that America is trying to destroy China via isolating her comapnies ( e.g. Huawei ) and the trade wars.

2) The People of Hong Kong are telling the world that they DO NOT CONFORM to the Chicom way of governance and that they value Western Style Democracy more than totalitarianism. It is a plea for Western pressure and help.

TAKE YOUR PICK. I’ve seen people argue either way depending on who you support.

There is a local group called Hong Kong Autonomy Action who has helped organize most of the American flag waving for several months. Some of their members are featured in that viral video of them singing the American anthem. I’ve heard that this group is related to a local right-leaning party called Civic Passion.

https://www.facebook.com/HKAA2019/

They are responsible for the slogan “President Trump, please liberate Hong Kong”. I don’t like the word “liberate” but I appreciate their efforts on trying to get the international attention by waving the flag. Some left-leaning protesters don’t like the slogan because of its emphasis on pleading for Trump’s help. They are concerned that just the mention of “Trump” would offend the democrats. So these people are now busy on Twitter and Reddit to keep their distance from Trump and apologize to the liberals for the slogan!

The majority of the protesters were not supportive of this act until it got positive coverage from the American media. Just one month ago, when the protesters spotted the American flag, they took it away.

Now that they know waving the flags will get coverage, I’m sure that those who took the flag away just a month ago have now made a 180 and embraced the flag, waving it as hard as they can in front of the camera. While I’m sure they are very anti-CCP, these protesters see the flag more as an attention-seeking prop than the values and meanings behind it.

Good speculation.

What the ChiComs would win by implicating Trump: Sympathy and strong patriotic support of hundreds of millions of Chinese to unite against USA.

What the ChiComs would lose: Nothing.

Dozens of balkanized , suspicious ethnic groups in the old Soviet Union defiantly and strongly united against the Germans when attacked in WWII, like they never had in their lives.

This Hong Kong stuff could get Chinese united against the USA. I’m sure all the phony plastic flags said “made in China” but so do ours. Or even “A Soros Company.”

I pick 1) - but the Beijing line is 3) Trump and the CIA are fomenting a "color revolution" in Hong Kong.

Way too many Chinese-Americans are believing that.
