Waste disposal is very expensive for the non-established people in the commie western states. Landfills are few and far between. Elite companies own the few waste stations, and fees and costs to make trips to them are high. Also due to regulations that support the anti-competition and anti-DIY paradigm, fees for rental housing are out of this world. Drug abuse is encouraged and even coerced in many cases (social circles and dating games in places of employment).

A collapse of a civilization is quite a show—especially the end of it. Formerly established folks will be treated worse then than the presently non-established.

And what the heck is a “convivial and participatory society”?

It just means going back to the good old days when the ladies would gather for a quilting party and the men would have a grand good time shucking corn until they found the bottle of moonshine hidden in the corn at which point the work ended and the fun began. No one had or could afford anything resembling modern entertainment. Not all bad but nothing like most people are used to. Transportation will be by walking or bicycling if you are well off enough to afford a bike. If you like music you have to learn to play and sing and make your own instrument since you won’t have any money to buy even a cheap harmonica. Of course the people who make the laws will have none of this, they will still have their luxury.

Ah, I see. But I think you forgot a tiny detail.

In the Middle Ages, the rich would eat meals off of trenchers, which were large pieces of flatbread that they used as plates. At the end of the meal, they would show their generosity to the poor by handing out the used trenchers and table scraps (the stuff farmers would normally feed their pigs). No doubt, the elitists who dream of forcing everyone into a destitute third world lifestyle will think of something just as demeaning to show how much they care for the poor.
