A coalition of eight attorneys general has launched an investigation into Facebook over potential antitrust violations, New York Attorney General Letitia James announced Friday.

The group of bipartisan group of state attorneys general, led by New York, is probing Facebook's dominance in social media and any potential "anticompetitive conduct" stemming from that position.

The probe heightens the stakes for the embattled social media platform, which is already weathering antitrust investigations from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the Department of Justice (DOJ) and lawmakers on Capitol Hill.

"Even the largest social media platform in the world must follow the law and respect consumers," James said in a statement. "I am proud to be leading a bipartisan coalition of attorneys general in investigating whether Facebook has stifled competition and put users at risk."

"We will use every investigative tool at our disposal to determine whether Facebook’s actions may have endangered consumer data, reduced the quality of consumers’ choices, or increased the price of advertising," she said.

This isn’t about protecting free speech, this is about getting money from Facebook.

They’ve seen all these other government entities grabbing millions and millions and they want their share.

Yeah, why is the NY AG leading this when I’m sure most NY and beltway elites are pretty satisfied with Facebooks anti-speach leanings.
Would it be because they are worried about conservatives doing just this, and they are getting out in front of them in order to take the teeth out of the political side to the censorship biases as a part of their monopoly on their market?

The total LACK OF ACTION against Google/YouTube/Facebook/Twitter BY OUR CONGRESS for their CENSORSHIP AGAINST CONSERVATIVES is one of the most ANGERING, PATHETIC AND DISGUSTING issues of the modern era.

Twitter, ESPECIALLY. They have risen to the level of being a PLATFORM not a FORUM. They are now a COMMUNICATION conduit through which many police stations, politicians, etc., get their messages to the public. IF THE PHONE COMPANIES CAN'T BARGE INTO OUR PHONE CONVERSATIONS AND CENSOR THEM, THEN SO SHOULD TWITTER NOT BE ALLOWED TO CENSOR ANY COMMUNICATIONS MADE ON TWITTER!!!!

I'm not happy this is being championed by NY and beltway liberals.

Conservatives need to get involved so this doesn't go all left-wing.

That was exactly my point.
I don’t believe for a second that the NY AG things Facebook’s problem is censorship and they probably don’t much care about them having a monopoly on social networking. This is all about beating conservatives to the punch, so as to disarm any chance of them clearing the way for open political speech on social networks before the 2020 election.

Maybe so, but Facebook/Google/etc. do have a dangerous monopoly on a huge and powerful part of the internet and on the communications system, and this must be stopped.

I was permanently expelled from Facebook because of my support for President Trump.

Since then, I have become aware of the importance of Facebook to many things that we take for granted. For example, businesses and college entrances make reference to Facebook.

Facebook's ability to silence opinions and communication must be stopped. It is truly comparable to silencing opinions expressed by telephone or mail or in private conversations.

We need laws immediately to guarantee free communication on Facebook--and other "social media" as well--in fact on the internet.

Facebook's lame defense is that "terrorists" will communicate dangerous ideas. Then they use this to ban the likes of "Trump supporters" or "Christians" as "terrorists." This is bogus of course. We need laws that will deal with true terrorists while guaranteeing the freedom of communication on the internet.
