“Ronstadt was the most spectacular female singer of the rock era.”

“I contend that the most spectacular female singer of the rock era was Etta James.”

You’re both wrong. It was Janis Joplin. For sure.

If you like the spastic caterwauling of an injured cat that has consumed enough downers to sedate an elephant, then yes, Janis Joplin was fantastic.

Some of us like it when a vocalist can keep time and stay in tune without screeching.

Janis wasn’t around long enough. The most haunting voice I heard live was Grace Slick. “Greasy Heart” all the way.
