U.S. Border Patrol agents seized over 1,200 pounds of marijuana in a single incident.
Late Monday evening, Border Patrol agents assigned to the Special Operations Detachment working near Fronton, Texas, observed several subjects carrying bundles of narcotics across the Rio Grande. As agents approached, the smugglers abandoned the bundles and fled to Mexico. A search of the area resulted in the seizure of over 1,200 pounds of marijuana worth an estimated street value of $979K.
Additionally, over the past three days, agents stopped five marijuana smuggling attempts resulting in the arrest of six narcotic smugglers and the seizure of over 930 pounds of marijuana, worth an estimated $745K.
Border Patrol will process all subjects accordingly.

Marijuana use is widespread, geographically and demographically.
It is not just in the cities, and not just among the young. Per capita, it is higher among some groups, but found in most groups.
Good point. And we were assured that demand for black market pot would drop off once local “legal” supplies were established.
Illegal Mexican MJ cheaper than legal American MJ? I thought if we just legalized it, the cartels would shrivel up.

Weed? I have smelled it in the halls of Congress, literally. That’s like asking who drinks alcohol.
Three draws of marijuana (legal) saved me last night from a trip to the ER for at least the 11th time (quiets a type of spasm immediately). The hospital would do an injection of Valium to accomplish the same thing.
California has a very highly developed LEGAL pot biz, yet black market pot still comes in:

Cuz while the authorities did plan to impose a tax, they have instead PLUNDERED the biz and are now weighing it down with all manner of onerous regulations.
Yes, they eff up whatever they touch.
THAT is why we still have these smugglers.

Back in the late 80s and early 90s, the answer would have been almost everyone who smokes.
But then kine bud became a thing, and Mexican weed seemed to disappear. No one I know who smokes would even smoke it if it was free.

High grade MJ that most smokers smoke today, sold in the legal stores and such.
All that, and yet the Border Patrol receives ZERO funding from the many state and local taxes to bigfoot the competition???
Therefore:
The United States Border Patrol should be allowed to maintain a retail duty-free operation as a cost-saving measure.
