President Donald Trumps tariffs have created the perfect storm at the wrong moment for the housing industry, California builders say.
The California Building Industry Association estimates tariffs have driven up the cost of an average-size new home by $20,000 to $30,000.

Half a million for a home and it is constructed out of Chinese crap. Go figure.
bullshit. the cost of homes in CA is astronomical (and have been for over a decade) because the environmentalists have nearly shut down new construction.
supply and demand. and supply is frozen.
Cool statistic, now tell me how much the environmental and legal regulations have driven up costs of a California home to comply with the outrageous regulations imposed by the state and local bureaucrats.
LOL!....what is Democrat governance doing to the cost of living in California though?
Supplies are dynamic not static. If they cost more then somebody will undercut them.
So? Lower taxes. How come that never enters any discussion regarding higher prices?
That is the whole point of them, that and revenue generation.
No, the owner or builder will have to eat most or all of the extra cost. Just because something costs more, doesn’t mean people will necessarily pay more.
In 2020, solar panels will be mandated for most new home construction.
Where do they come from?
I see a lot of local construction, maybe trying to beat the deadline.
The high cost of housing has more to do with Government Fees and Permissions than anything else.
Feb 2018, begin process to get Building Permits to construct a New Home on MY Land
September 2019 and $80,000m Later I have a Grading Permit
Another $20,000-$30,00 and I will have Building Permit next month.
20-30k on a multi bazzilion dollar house.
HMMM. Math is hard.
I guess home prices in California just to went up since Trump started this?
The cunning of this man!

What makes you think its your land?
L
Cardboard box on the roof full of empty painted beer cans.
Vio-la. Solar power !!!
BS.
Math is hard. For a 10% import tariff to increase construction material costs by $10,000 then the total amount of imported construction material would have to be $100,000. I find that really hard to believe.
High taxes, high fees, to many regulations all pump up the cost of new housing. Allowing illegals to flood the state pump up cost of rental housing.

Apparently the Chinese drywall disaster did not teach them anything??
Between 2004 and 2007, an estimated 100,000 homes in more than 20 states were built with toxic drywall imported from China.

We’ve seen the shacks that sell for a million bucks on the TV reno shows. Pres. Trump shouldn’t be blamed for the obscene housing prices in CA. But why should he care about CA anyway?
