Former Trump campaign staffer Alva Johnson told The Daily Beast she is dropping her lawsuit accusing President Trump of pay discrimination and non-consensually kissing her, telling the publication that she concedes it would have little chance of success.
“I’m fighting against a person with unlimited resources, and repeatedly the judicial system has failed to find fault in his behavior,” Johnson told the publication on Wednesday. “That’s a huge mountain to climb.”
When she filed the lawsuit in February, Johnson claimed Trump grabbed her and attempted to kiss her on the lips in an RV during a Tampa event during the 2016 campaign.
Lawyers for Trump have released a clip of the two’s interaction, with both sides claiming the video vindicates them. Johnson's team noted that it contradicts claims by Trump and the White House that the two never met, while Trump’s lawyers have argued Johnson does not appear uncomfortable in the clip.
Johnson has acknowledged this and said she did not realize the gravity of the incident until October 2016 when a clip of Trump discussing grabbing women’s genitals dominated news coverage.
