Haverford Township said Wednesday that one of its five companies had been “relieved of duty indefinitely” after officials were told by the volunteer organization that it would not dismiss a volunteer who admitted he had been in the process of joining the Proud Boys, a controversial far-right men’s group. According to the township, the volunteer, whom officials did not name, admitted to the township in mid-August that he had attended “several social gatherings” for the Proud Boys and passed two out of the four steps in the initiation process, which included hazing.

Of course it says “congress shall...”, but ever since the Civil Rights movement, the First Amendment not only limits what laws congress can make, but what a business or group of people can do. But I guess it only applies now to forcing a company (or volunteer fire department) to hire a gay or transexual or a woman or a muslim.

Haverford College dominates the area. I know one fellow who went there in the ‘70s-80s. He was an explicit Communist in his high school days. Really big on central control. He wound up in Germany and writes Euro-style papers these days. His younger brother had been a friend of mine, and he was just about as Communist, but is cynical enough to just take a regular job and live a life.
