So are they going to elevate murder by mass shooting to a federal crime only? What then happens to the state charges of murder? Our namby-pamby bleeding hearts won’t allow the DP anymore here in Washington State.

I can see states claim an additional sanctuary status case where if you do this in one state then make it to a non-DP state they will afford you sanctuary. Much like how Mexico won’t deport criminals to the US unless the US promises not to charge them with the DP.

I think it was after giving the serial killer Gary Ridgeway a deal to get out of the death penalty (if he revealed other burial sites), it became clear that nobody in Washington could ever be given the death penalty.

And decent defense lawyer I imagine could say “Ladies and Gentlemen of the jury, my client only killed two people. Gary Ridgway killed dozens and dozens, and did not even receive the death penalty.”

Hmm. A quick search brought up an article from three days ago. Seems that Ridgway had been secretly moved to the Federal prison in Florence, Colorado. After some hollering by the victims families, he has been returned to Walla Walla state prison.

Some say that he is a model prisoner at Walla Walla and was at risk of being hurt by other inmates. Other reports say that he was getting too familiar with Walla Walla and casing it to escape, and was a threat to the guards there. Others say that the guards at Walla Walla were becoming lackadaisical around the 66 year-old Ridgway.
