Maine tops ‘safest states’ rankings four years after removing major gun restriction

AUGUSTA – When Maine passed a “Constitutional Carry” law allowing Maine residents to carry a concealed firearm without any special permit in 2015, opponents of the law forecast a dangerous future for the state. They said the new law would hurt public safety and put Maine kids at risk.

One state representative who opposed the bill went so far as to say it would give Mainers a reason to be afraid every time they went out in public or to work.

Another state representative suggested the law would lead to violent criminals with recent arrests and convictions legally carrying handguns.

Putting the rights of Mainers ahead of the objections of opponents, Governor Paul LePage signed the bill sponsored by Senator Eric Brakey of Auburn after it won bipartisan approval in the Maine House and Senate.

Now four years later, Maine has been named the safest state in the nation according to US News and World Report’s public safety rankings, which measures the fifty states based on crime data.

I wonder what would happen in Illinois if they adopted the same style laws.

What you really need to be careful about driving in Maine, & New Brunswick is watch out for the MOOSE. The most dangerous animal in the great north woods.

and don’t tell me that: “a moose once bit my sister”

Three types of leftists - power brokers, useful idiots, true believers.

The power brokers simply want to rule. They know their social promises are just BS they hoist on the masses so the masses will give them absolute power to be “fair”. Useful idiots fall hook line and sinker for the marketing and echo it. True believers are in between. They are power brokers that believe the marketing, these are the first to be killed when power is secured.

It is the leftist power brokers that are outnumbered. They need everyone but their trusted buddies or well paid guards, to be disarmed to hold power. They market gun control, useful idiots parrot it, and true believers are ignorant of the truth until the last moment.

The minority in Maine is “Not French”
It’s too cold for all but the heartiest homeless people and all of the Somalians are in one area. Stay out of Lewiston/Auburn and you are more likely to be killed by a moose than a criminal.

It ain’t maybe true.

You are 110% true or at least factual.

Which is more correct, truth at 110% or facts at 120%?

Enquiring minds, stoned as they are, want to know.

No, I don’t have a sister.:)

About a mile from the facility I delivered to was a pretty open field of around 4 acres. Every evening and morning there were moose in that field. Big suckers.
Seeing my first moose close up I realised God had a sense of humor.
Big ungainly looking things.

Yes, moose are very tall. Also, 800-1200 lbs. If you hit one with your car it will land right on your windshield. If you hit one with a semi truck, it will drive your radiator right into the fan and engine. They also have no fear of man. Never get between a mama moose and her calf.

My company has been buying lumber from mills in the Ashland, ME area for 40 years. I have never been up that far, but several of the other traders have.

Now, most of that land up there is owned by JD Irving. Jim Irving is one of the wealthiest men in Canada. He owns hundreds of thousands of acres of forest land, sawmills, paper mills, hundreds of gas stations, fuel tanker ships and a refinery in St. John, NB.
