A bunch of great, young WO-1 Huey pilots were trained there and they performed with professionalism and precision flying expertise in Vietnam.

I was honored to know them and be a part of that aviation history.

Just an aside, I stopped by the former Primary Helicopter Training base of Ft Wolters, TX just outside of Mineral Wells a few weeks ago. The entrance sign with the helicopter static displays are still there along with some plaques. The old maintenance and operations ramps are industrial sites now. Most of the old WOC barracks are now a state prison. Pretty run down. Sad to see. It shut down and consolidated at Ft Rucker in 1973, a decade before my time in the cockpit.
