Clip-on switches been in all my bass boats since the late 70’s early 80’s...
Essential piece of common sense... Nothing worse for your psyche than leaving your boat at 70-mph after unexpectedly hitting a towed-barge wake... Or flying out of a wind-protected creek into a main body of water and discover those thrilling 3-4 ft rollers...

Having done a little boating myself, tho’ never at anything close to 70 mph, it seems to me common sense would be:

Be aware of areas where barge wakes might occur, or any other wake, for that matter, and use one’s eyes.

Don’t go flying out of wind protected creeks, etc., until you know exactly what you are headed in to. I also always check the weather forecast carefully, including the hourly forecast graph, such as this:

https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lat=32.799&lon=-96.4953&unit=0&lg=english&FcstType=graphical

before going out. The wind graph is quite useful, tho’ I always allow for winds being a little worse...
