I have a 20’ Bryant with a lanyard. Even in a boat that small, I can’t imagine wearing the lanyard while docking in a tight marina. For sure, I’d end up killing the engine by mistake, just when I’d need it.

So disconnect when docking... Law makes common sense irrelevant and Insurance takes Common Sense rare.
If you can’t figure out the difference then you deserve what happens and your insurance won’t cover it anyway
If you screw up WHY should someone else have to pay for it?
