You would not try that in Moab Utah, as we did as kids. Running down the concrete sidewalk barefoot, then we hit the asphalt then hopped and danced our way across the street as it was so hot.

We would do the same while repeating: Hot! Hot! Hot! Hot! Hot! Once on the other side, we would cool our feet in the grass.

Even the white sand beaches on the New Jersey to Florida beaches got too hot to walk on barefoot! I remember when the first rubber flip-flops first came on the market in the 50s, for just this reason! So much better than leather sandals on the beach.
