Deplorables, perhaps. As there was at the time no Tea Party, per se but multiple organizations that took the name…who precisely are they referring to?

The problem is that the tea party wasn’t really that conservative.
It was most animated by people who thought their socialist Medicare was going to go away with Obamacare.
Sure, the obligatory nod to government bloat, but the real action was protecting one socialist program from another socialist program

Very true. “Taxed Enough Already” is what it stood for. It was pretty typical. They wanted the “benefits” they were promised but refused to deal with the fact that those programs are going broke. The math is pretty simple, really.
But that doesn’t obviate the truth of my response.

Your point is true about leftists lying.
But we need to be honest about the Tea Party as it manifested as well.
There is no appetite on the left or the right for cutting spending or government, so any tax cuts that are ever able to be achieved will be modest and transitory.
We are all socialists/leftists to some degree if you look at what we collectively do, rather than what we say.
That is the lie of the Tea Party.
