Interesting juxtaposition. Don’t read the kid’s face as smug. His cheeks are flushed, lips held tight with tension, eyes alert and focused. Comey is pale, without tension and without alert focus on external world, i.e., dissociated. The boy was uncomfortable but bravely held the aggressive man’s gaze.
