Seriously:
A cooler made to directly store drinks (water, Gatoraid, etc.) should be fine if handled the way I described (washed well, etc.) If used, you might want to fill it with municipal tap water and let the water trickle out slowly through the dispenser just to kill off most of the bacteria that might accumulate there. Then refill. If initially in doubt, use diluted bleach in an additional 1st round.
Do note that drinking directly out of the mouth / dispenser of any container will contaminate it with your own bacteria, so you don’t want to start drinking from a container in that way and then come back to it a week later, esp. in warm / hot conditions.
Just common sense stuff, really.

Tap water from a public water system contains Chlorine. It will keep for ages if you store it in a clean sealed container. You can also add Chlorine if the water does not already have it. Just buy regular Clorox bleach and find a chart on line for the amount to add.
I would think these forecasts hinge on the storm finishing its projected turn to the west later today. If that doesn’t happen all bets are off.
Legit question here. I’m not familiar with the physics of how hurricanes strengthen and weaken.
Are the projections of growing strength based at all on what happens when Dorian crosses into and over the Gulf Stream?
Given how hot the water is, I’d think there’d be some rapid strengthening before landfall.
Those grocery store insulated bags will extend the chill if you use them as a wrap around coolers or other containers.

I’ve got two gallon-sized jugs of water in the freezer right now - one for the freezer and one for the fridge part - a block if ice that size stays frozen longer than the same volume of cubes/crushed.
The water purification tablets have a shelf life of 4 years.
Current GFS run has the storm making landfall right in the center of the peninsula and then drifting northwards right along the coast up into the Carolinas - worst-case scenario, but we’re still too far out to claim that will be the case.

My fondest memory was during a visit with my uncle and aunt in the late 90s. Her hobby was cooking and grilling, and his beltline proved it. Publix was her store. We went to get groceries (steak), and every department we went through, they knew her, and she knew them.
