We have some manufacturers in our town that have facilities in Mexico. When the execs go there anytime, they are chauffeured in security oriented vehicles from the airport.

Personally I wouldn’t set foot in the country. But my BIL and his wife regularly stay at some resorts there.

For the most part, if you aren’t looking for trouble, you won’t have problems in Mexico. The problem is that with the demise of the big drug cartels, smaller cartels led by crazy young guys have taken their place. Many places once safe for tourists are now dangerous. The cartels aren’t after you, the tourist, but they don’t care that much if they kill you getting to someone they do care about.

It’s a shame really. Mexico, in places is beautiful, and most of its people are pleasant and hard-working. They have had 200 years of really crappy government. Once the Mexican educational TV channel did a list of the 11 most evil Mexicans in history—at least half were presidentes.

We really don’t need to be importing their political system here.
