The West Germans in the small towns where most American’s were stationed in Hesse, the Rhineland, and especially Bavaria, liked us and we had a good relationship with them. The Reds in cities like Frankfurt and Berlin didn’t.
Bavarians are to Germany what Texas is to the USA!
Very proud of their distinct heritage; much more traditional in values; was a former independent kingdom until 1871; scorned by the Prussians in the north of Germany; much more agriculture than the rest of the country. In fact, you might be correct in comparing them to the ‘intolerables’ in the USA.
