China insists it is unaware of calls to Trump; says tariffs ‘extreme pressure’,‘not constructive’

One day later, China is still insisting no phone calls took place over the weekend that President Donald Trump claimed showed its willingness to talk again.

“I have not heard of this situation regarding the two calls that the U.S. mentioned in the weekend,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said at press conference on Tuesday. He had denied on Monday that the calls had taken place.

“Regretfully, the U.S. has further increased the tax rate on China’s exports to the U.S. This extreme pressure is purely harmful to both sides and not constructive at all,” Geng said, according to a CNBC translation.

On Monday, Trump said at the G-7 summit in France that China in recent phone conversations expressed its desire for a deal. His comment renewed hopes for a resolution between the world’s two largest economies, pushing the market higher as the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained more than 250 points Monday.

Trump abruptly ended the tariff cease-fire earlier this month by slapping more tariffs on Chinese goods, and China retaliated with imposing duties on $75 billion more of U.S. goods and resumed auto tariffs. Trump also said he’s ordering U.S. companies to immediately start looking for an alternative to China.

“We hope that the U.S. can maintain calm, return to rationality, stop wrong practices, and create conditions for the two sides to conduct consultations on the basis of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit,” Geng said Tuesday.

Chinese state-run media Xinhua is also sticking to its tough stance on the trade war.

“China did not and will not surrender,” Xinhua said in a commentary on Tuesday. “Playing the old tricks of bullying and maximum pressure, the U.S. administration has escalated the trade tensions repeatedly and tried to coerce China into accepting its irrational demands.”

This extreme pressure is purely harmful to both sides and not constructive at all,

That is one-sidedly true. It is not constructive for China.

Tariffs are "extreme pressure"? What? Only if applied to China? Meanwhile, they can apply all the tariffs they want on others?

China is playing the tease-the-U.S.-media game for favorable publicity. It worked for North Vietnam and the Soviet Union.

That is a carefully worded denial. It sounds like they learned a lot from the “missing” Clinton emails.

China we have a problem. What is that President Trump? Oh America does not need China however China needs America's huge consumer markets. China's leader should come to Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Indiana and look at the emptied out factories then, just walls and a roof, no people, no machinery. No chance of ever coming back. Once those factories are emptied out to go to Viet Nam, India, the Philippines, they are gone. China has lost 3,000,000 jobs so far in the tariff war, it isn't going to get better. Oh the EU is a mess, Germany is in a recession so no help there. China Trump has you in a canyon and it is called box. Surrender to a better general.

Trump told them what would happen. Trump within minutes, called their bluff and raised tariffs. The jOkeass watchers should not be in charge. Trump is not jOkeass.

China will have to re-focus its market to target its own 1.4 billion people instead of America.

They like to do everything in secret and under the table. Being exposed causes them to ‘lose face’ in their minds. And that is just what Trump wants. Plus, the media is once again diverted from what is really going on.

This is exactly what should happen, but it is exactly what the CCP fears most, and will steadfastly refuse to do.

What really pissed them off is, even if it's not true, the stock market had a positive reaction on a few words from the President.

China has to try to call him a liar, even if he didn't so that reaction will never happen again.

Reagan sunk the Soviet Union...Trump is going to help China sink itself by exposing the fact they can never be trusted.

STOP BUYING ANYTHING FROM CHINA!

DO IT NOW!
