Dems are hoping Ginsburg stays alive until December 31. If so and she passes away 12:00 EST on Jan. 1 or beyond the dems are going to harp on the “Biden Rule” that McConnell used to delay Scalia’s replacement. Normally you just tell dems to pound in the sand. However, there are probably at least 4-5 Republicans that will want the appointment to be delayed after the 2020 election.

If the Presidency was an open seat then I can see the Biden rule applying. Since Trump is running for reelection, the Biden rule doesn’t apply.
