Republican presidential primary challenger William Weld recently offered the most drastic response to the idea of how Trump opponents should respond to his reelection: impeach and attempt to remove him from office, despite the voters’ verdict.
“And I’ve long said that one of two things was going to happen: Either the sober second judgment of the community’s going to kick in, which may be happening in the last month or so. I think the president’s gone a little bit further on the proverbial limb in terms of lashing out all day long. And people will look at that and say, hm, maybe that’s not my dish after all.”
And if not and Trump is re-elected?
“I think Congress should impeach him.”
Salute Weld for his honesty, I suppose; he’s perfectly comfortable overruling the decision of the American voters at the ballot box. Then again, Bill Clinton was polling pretty well when the GOP attempted to impeach and remove him from office in 1998–1999 as well.
But we can only imagine the response of Trump supporters if somehow he won reelection, but then a short time later, a Democratic House impeached him and a combination of Democratic senators and 20 or so GOP senators agreed to remove him from office. Even a failed impeachment after Trump’s reelection would be seen as a bitter effort to further tarnish the reputation of a president that most Democrats believed would never get one term, never mind two.
In addition, Weld said, “I’ve recently read the law memo that Hillary Rodham and I wrote for the Nixon impeachment, and it’s very good. It’s balanced and makes it clear that conduct that’s not consonant with the conception of how the office should operate, including dignity, decency is grounds for removal. It doesn’t have to be a criminal offense.”
It’s interesting how dignity and decency are defined differently in different eras. In 1964, Lyndon Johnson gave a press conference to reporters buck naked.

If weld thinks he’s going to become President by getting President Trump impeached he best forget it.

That’s been my experience, as well. When you push for a reason for impeachment, the answers fall along the lines of “he’s rich,” “I don’t like him or his attitude,” “I don’t like what he says,” “he’s arrogant, cocky, etc.,” “he has no experience in politics,” or “he needs to stop tweeting.” It’s laughable. I was talking to one young lady, who started down this path. I gave her specific, legal reasons why Hillary should be in jail. Her answer about Trump was pretty much that she doesn’t like him, and she’s positive that nobody can get as rich as he is without doing something illegal, even if nobody has found it, yet. I responded by asking if she wanted a country where we’re going to put people on trial for what we might, without proof, suspect somebody is guilty of. Then, she reverted back to the “I don’t like him” mantra. I kept pushing her for a legal standard for impeachment. She finally stomped off.
He’s a born privileged descendent of a signer of the Declaration of Independence (William Floyd). He never created any wealth of his own. He’s a silver spoon baby who unlike his famous forebear likes the status quo of a swamp.
Just another proof that being a Republican office holder in a deep blue state leaves a lot of room on the right.

IOW, that a hole said that Hitlery’s notion of what the constitution actually says “high crimes and misdomeanors” is just the starting point. I would also point out the Ms Rodham was FIRED from her post by the chief democrat because she LIED.
What criminal activity is Trump doing for impeachment? Election winning against AntiAmericans is NOT grounds for impeachment, you AntiAmerican NeverTrumper Moronic Idiot....
People like him, Kristol, Romney, and pretty much all those whose whole lives are lived extracting station/stature and/or riches off the public are pathetic wastes, and are elite only in their own heads and in the incestuous circles in which they travel.
