A white man who cited Florida’s “stand your ground” self-defense law after fatally shooting a Black man during a dispute over a parking space last year has been convicted of manslaughter.
Jurors in Clearwater, located roughly 25 miles west of Tampa, deliberated for six hours on Friday before announcing their verdict against Michael Drejka, 49, in the shooting death of Markeis McGlockton, reported the Tampa Bay Times.
Drejka’s attorneys reportedly plan to appeal the verdict after their client’s sentencing hearing, which has been scheduled for Oct. 10. He faces up to 30 years in prison.
The shooting occurred after McGlockton, a 28-year-old father of three, parked in a handicap spot outside a Clearwater convenience store in July 2018 while he ran inside with his 5-year-old son to purchase snacks, according to his girlfriend, Britany Jacobs.

I agree the shooting wasn’t justified. , its a win/ win because the shooter and the victum were both far less than ideal citizens. And society no longer has to fear either one.
The victim was smashed to the ground and may have not been thinking clearly, the perp didn’t retreat from the attack until he was shot.
All the gun owner did wrong was talking to the cops without a attorney present.
Generally agreed. I see handicapped parking as a courtesy thing. My wife had a sticker while she was undergoing chemo. It really helped to reduce the amount of walking about she had to do. OTOH, WTF does it help to have handicapped parking in a convenience store that might have 10 total parking spaces? Is that extra 20 ft that someone might have to walk really that critical?
Now, for those with hardware that needs to be accommodated, like wheelchairs and the like, it makes sense, but not for folks like my late wife. It wouldn't matter much, even when she had to use a walker to get about.
Bottom line for me is, that it's not the law or potential fines that make me not park in handicapped spaces. It's simple courtesy.
One final nit... while it's hard to tell what the real circumstances are from the outside, it sure does seem to me that some doctors think that just being fat is a 'handicap'. For some, I think more walking would be better for them than not.
It's the moment the trigger was pulled that matters, not the moment the gun was drawn.

The shooter was under no immediate threat, and had nothing but his pride hurt because how dare someone show him to be the pathetic little man that he was.

Another thing about the video, the perp had a friend that was obviously going to join in the beat-down of whitey, and only stopped when the gun came out.
Without the gun the victim may have been beaten to death.
When you attack someone you may get shot, better make a note of it.
It seems like the opposite to me. Not enough HC spots, because all the fat people get handicap stickers from their doctors.

The guy who got shot in this story is a jerk in more ways than one. He’s taking a HC spot just because he feels like it; he walks into the store with his 5 year old son, teaching the child that he doesn’t have to follow the rules; his wife sits in the car... she couldn’t have dropped the husband off and circle around? He then is aggressive toward the shooter. He was a huge loser.

If you think being shoved because you are fighting with a woman warrants lethal force you are a coward, period.

I broke a bone in my foot and was in a special boot for 6 weeks. As I was leaving the doctor the girl handed me a form to get a handicap parking permit. What the heck...
So this big stupid boot was a pain to walk with, and it was during the winter, so I used it once at a Walmart.
I came out of the store and hobbled to my car where a crazy looking woman who outweighed me by 50 pounds (I’m 6” and 280) stood leaning against my Jeep with her arms crossed.
“I just wanted to see if you was really a cripple.” says this paragon of the American Educational System.
I stopped. Pointed at the boot.
She squinted at me, shrugged, and lumbered off to lean against another car parked in a handicapped spot.
Never used the parking pass again.
NOPE.
Perhaps yelled at him to f#ck off, but probably no more than that.
