A relative teaches junior high school kids math. They are almost all minority with a handful of poor whites from the mountains. It’s a highly sought-after “magnet” school with generous scholarships.
The administration just changed the grading policy for the new 2019-2020 school year: 20% tests; 70% ungraded class work and 10% homework. I remarked that the little darlings will game the system and not turn in any homework since it is weighted so low. She said that won’t happen because they are too dumb to understand percentages and weightings!
One thing I truly believe is that the really motivated kids who want to learn will seek out the ones that know.
