Stanford pushes separate physics course for minority students

Stanford University is pushing a separate physics course for minorities in hopes that it will result in more diversity among physics majors.

A 2016 survey revealed Stanford’s physics department to be one of the “least diverse” departments within the institution, and the university has since embarked on a mission to resolve that supposed concern, according to a university news release.

“Creation of special curricula and support services for ethnic minority groups and women...textbook examples of unequal treatment” Tweet This One step Stanford has taken is promoting a modified version of the standard Mechanics course, a requirement for physics majors, boasting “added support.”

Stanford’s alternate version of this course, Physics 41E, boasts additional class time, as well as “learning assistants,” individuals with a “passion” for “education equity,” who are paid by the university to guide students through the difficult course.

The university says this modified course helps to increase diversity in the field because “students from underrepresented groups often don’t have the same level of preparation from high school as their majority peers.”

This sort of thing was supposed to be taken care of by selection criteria for matriculation. What we see here is tutors for a privileged class, and yes, any class that has extra instruction time and tutors is a privileged class, separate standards, and yes, any class that is structured like this has separate standards, with a desired end state of passing tests rather than understanding the subject because it’s all about a headcount color wheel. The diploma will still say “Stanford” but what, at that point, does “Stanford” say?

The article says this course would be for students who didn’t get a proper high school education. So what are they doing at a top university like Stanford in the first place?

Makes sense. Inertia is clearly higher for minorities, right?

What is really interesting is that many blacks and liberals are beginning to lift the taboo and agree that black IQ (mean, median, any type of average) is substantially below white and Asian IQ.

Their new argument is that the gap is real but it is caused by environmental factors (lead based paint, disease, difficult early home life, etc.).

The problem (for them) is that if their assessment is correct, then remedial education _will not_ fix the problem for individual students!

(It might work for future generations, if true.)

The lefties need to get their story straight.

They should go all the way and just call it Physics for Dummies.

they use New math to prove stuff and Marxian dialectics to formulate a thingy. All answers are assumed to be correct.

My freshman class had 500 enrolled in the college of architecture.

The Dean declared less than 10% would graduate.
He further said to shake the hand of your neighbor. Because, after 5yrs of architecture school, they will be gone.

14 graduated from my class.
I was number 3.

I earned my degree. I’m proud of it too.

There was no dumbing down. It was a battle. A test of your will and wits.

I would never go to a college that insults my intelligence by offering a watered down degree.

You got the wrong image there: all outcomes are equal therefore there is no such thing as greater or less than both of which are white inventions to hold the slaves down on the plantation; and they are, therefore, racist in the worst way and will be obliterated from any math conversations mostly due to Russian interference at the instigation of the Chinese.

”…students from underrepresented groups often don’t have the same level of preparation from high school as their majority peers.”

That is mainly because elementary and secondary education has been continually dumbed down for minorities for 30 years. The excuse given back then for such dumbing down? “…students from underrepresented groups often don’t have the same level of preparation from preschool or elementary school as their majority peers.”

The education pipeline was stuffed with kids who were catered to decades ago with dumbed-down curricula because they supposedly couldn’t handle the real thing.

This Stanford dumbing-down was perfectly predictable and will spread. At this rate, it won’t be long before students will need a post-doc degree to reach the level of a high school graduate 50 years ago.

Of course. If a guy is a minority or an athlete there is no guarantee that their degree means anything. Its a scam. A top college degree is given out to the less worthy all the time. We are just supposed to ignore it. Another protected class are the kids of politicians or other famous people. And of course there are the kids of the very rich as well. So if you see a skinny white guy from Queens who went to Princeton, and you never heard of him, and his father did not give him a car or credit card, you can be sure that guy is very bright. The rest just get a paper like everyone else.

That’s at the local JC. It’s called Physics without calculus

Just ridiculous. All they are doing is providing extra tutoring for people who aren’t ready to take the class
