The UN put an arms blockade around the Middle East which the Arab states easily circumvented,

Worth noting a boycott the US supported, though there were those who turned their eye.

It remained in legal effect until the 1950s, when the Soviets started shipping arms to Egypt via, I think, Czechoslovakia, at which point England and France allied with Israel for the Sinai campaign, ending the blockade while at the same time attracting Eisenhower’s ire. The US didn’t have the present-day special relationship with Israel until after the six-day war, although there were plenty of friendly back channels in the interim.
