No, it's not. There are more trees in New England now than there were at the time of the War for Independence. There is less starvation now than there was 3 billion people ago. Malthus and Ricardo (and Ehrlich) have all been disproven.
Overpopulation is routinely used as an excuse to curtail human freedom.

What’s more, IIRC the “natives” have been burning swaths of The Amazon for a millennia or so and it doesn’t seem to hurt it much.
