Agreed. Most manufactured food has a lot of carbs. Can’t get away from it. Carbs, corn, etc. tend to be cheap to grow and manufacture into foods. It is one of the reasons why the food pyramid emphasizes grains.
However, you may have to forgo complex carbs for a while to lose weight and ,once the weight is optimal, complex carbs can be introduced.
Also, the actual term should be net carbs. Net carbs = grams of carbs - grams of fiber. This forces you to look for fiber in your foods. Our target was 25 grams of net carbs per day. My wife and I lost 80 lbs between the two of us.
Lastly, after giving up all of the tasty carby foods, you have to replace it with something — that something are vegetables. A win-win. I was not a fan of squash before but I love it now. Especially when it is cooked on the grill.
