Denmark has approximately the population and GDP of the Atlanta metro area, as a side note. What a tiny European nation can afford, and what a continent-spanning nation can afford, are obviously two very different things.
The $600 million that the Danes pay in Greenland subsidies comprises less than one half of one percent of their total budget. I think they can afford it.
