Energy recommendations from a government-backed program have gone viral after suggesting that people should keep their home thermostats at least at 78 degrees for cooling.
Energy Star, which works with the Environmental Protection Agency and the Energy Department to set efficiency benchmarks for appliances, electronics, building materials, lighting and other products, recommends that Americans program their thermostats to at least 78 degrees from 6 a.m.
The program then recommends temperatures be raised to at least 85 degrees from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., at which point it recommends again setting temperatures to at least 78 degrees.
Thermostats should be then be set at 82 degrees or above from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m, according to the program.
Energy Star says Americans can Achieve significant energy and money savings that are possible through the proper use of your programmable thermostat, on its website.

68 winter
75 summer
Carter said so.
Kiss my 70 degree ass.
My house is underwater now according to Al Gore’s earlier predictions. So I assume I’m exempt.
Yeah right
I set 72-73 in winter
No more than 75 summer
Dont like it???
Tough
Of course odungo had the WH at 85 during the winter while telling us to use bicycle pumps.
“My house is underwater now according to Al Gores earlier predictions. So I assume Im exempt”.
Thread winner!!
About right for a nursing home.
72 in the winter, 70 in the summer. It is how my wife likes it.
Outstanding! Come by for a cold one sometime!
Just wait until an eco-nut get elected as POTUS and most thermostats are remotely programmable. The suggestion will become mandatory as the bureaucrats set your thermostat and it will be illegal to change it.
Come on down to the Texas Gulf Coast (Corpus Christi) with our 90% humidity and sleep with it 85 deg. You will wake up dripping wet with sweat. We are no longer in an “energy crisis” and there is no shortage of natural gas to power electric generation. This is centralized command and control. Soon it will no longer be a suggestion.
This is why I will never have a Nest thermostat in my house. Once your AC control is on the internet, you no longer control it.
We cant drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK.Somebody should tell these EPA @$$holes that Obama is no longer in office.
There you go, acting like an individual and determining how to lead your own life. Arent you worried about what The Collective will think?
We need to take the “cafe” standards and “Energy Star” out of the EPA 100% and put them in the Energy Department, where the mission about them is energy efficiency, period; nothing else. Second, we need to make sure “Energy Star” is never a “federal standard” with any federal mandate or any tie to federal funds related to it. It should be no more than a recommendation of what applied electrical engineering sees as best AND possible, at any time an Energy Star recommendation is made. And no more than that.
With the windows open my room gets down to about 72 at night. Should I turn the heater on?

_____________
I thought Carter said 80 in the summer and 68 in the winter. I could be wrong.
If thermostat settings are the most important thing these bureaucrats have to work on then we obviously don’t need them. Fire their butts and stay the hell out on my home.
