So according to the NYT, “America’s newspaper of record”, America wasn’t founded in in 1607 at Jamestown, but only upon the arrival of slaves to Jamestown in 1619. The English settlers don’t count, only the Africans. And since slaves weren’t present at the founding of Plymouth in 1620 or New England in 1630, are their histories to be stricken from the record as well.

I started school in the 50s when everyone was proud of American history. We had our flaws, of course, but we were the best country in the world. What has happened that history is to be revised by one of the most famous papers in the world to make us look irredeemably flawed?
