I don’t know why people keep pretending hillary has even a remote chance of ever running for office again.

Trump has to live long enough. If he's a threat to Hillary, and/or the democrats decide they simply can't win against him and/or someone in the Deep State gets their rice bowl broken, they just may try to make sure he's out of the way permanently.
