In 1940, American troops took control of Greenland, with boots on the ground, while Denmark was overrun with Nazis. We couldn’t risk the Nazis getting Greenland, too. The Danes could not successfully protect their own country, how could they protect Greenland???
In 1946 Truman should have told Denmark we were keeping it.
They could name their price, and we’d be the ones deciding whether we’d pay.
We just rescued them from the goddamn Nazis, for crying out loud!
At least the Danes did a good job of keeping their Jews safe from the Nazis, it’s well-documented.
