Maybe you mean SW (shortwave) using ionospheric prop?
UHF is shortwave (above 30 mhz), and yes thats what I mean. Theres no official definition of the term.
DFing UHF skywave can be done but it aint easy and requires very specialized and very expensive equipment. Rumor has it that the folks at the NSA can do it.
Skip your UHF transmission off the ionosphere and DFing becomes a whole lot more difficult. That assumes conditions are right for it, of course.
Getting a bearing on a VHF signal is relative straightforward since theyre Line of Sight. Fixing the location of the source, however, requires at least 2 and ideally 3 different operators working in concert.
Enjoy your day.

No, actually we are talking COMMUNICATIONS. The original article was about written messages in a bean bag dropped onto a deck from a helicopter.
No, we're talking RADIO.

re: “DFing UHF skywave can be done but it aint easy and requires very specialized and very expensive equipment. “
HWGA (Here We Go Again)
You idiot, TDOA (LOOK IT UP) uncomplicates DF via skywave. There are also simple techniques that can be used SINGLE SITE that can do DF at on SKYWAVES.
re: “UHF is shortwave (above 30 mhz),”
TWO WRONGS HERE, IDIOT.
1) VHF is 30 - 300 MHz, UHF is 300 to 3,000 MHz (LOOK IT UP)
2) the “m” (lower case m) indicates milli, “M” indicates Mega.
Now, get outa here ...
