A commercial helicopter pilot from Idaho has become the first woman in the Marine Corps to fly an F-35 fighter jet, a supersonic stealth aircraft.
Marine Capt. Anneliese Satz, a 29-year-old Boise native, completed her training program this past June at South Carolinas Air Station Beaufort, the Marine Corps announced last week. Satzs training lasted four years, taking her to bases in Florida, Texas and Mississippi.
The first flight in an F-35 is by yourself, Satz said. "The syllabus thoroughly prepares you for that first time you take off and for every flight after that, its an exhilarating experience."
Now, with over 300 flight hours under her belt, Satz is set to pilot the F-35B Lightning II as part of Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 121, the Green Knights, in Iwakuni, Japan. The aircraft is designed to operate from short-field bases and near front-line combat zones, the Corps said.
Satz said her time flying a commercial Robinson R44 Helicopter prepared her for a career as a military pilot. She also thanked her instructors and other members of her training squadron.

“Do you really think he cares about a wifes opinion? :)”
Nah.
I’m sure that Marine pilot doesn’t give a shit about what you think about her life choices. Neither do I. Neither does anyone else.
Well darn sweetheart Im touched that youre concerned about the state of my marriage...Im getting a little misty typing here
All my ex girl friends would be a damn long list..but the reality is I have fond memories of all of them and look back with kindness and good memories for the most part. Ive only been truly in love twice prior to my wife and both those women are deceased now ...died pretty young in their 50s ...one pancreatic cancer and one ovarian cancer...both southern girls
Now contrast that with how most women have venom for their exes....not all women...but most. I love women probably more than anything but my kids and Ive lived for women and yes intimacy since I was around 20...
That said I dont like bossy chinny women or any feminists even if gorgeous and above all women who dont paint their toe nails
Ill pass on to my wife that a complete stranger was concerned for her welfare....theres not much of that anymore in todays world
oh I almost forgot...yes....the answer is yes...I keep no secrets from my rib and she controls the money......money I make btw.....given that youre trying to be helpful about my marriage I thought I should disclose that nugget

“... I’m glad you came along, I dedicate this song...”
.
I can definitely relate to that song
But unlike Julio and Willie
Ive been monogamous for 23 years
.
He has to extoll his achievements, no one else thinks they are achievements.
I had to read that “by yourself” sentence before it finally dawned on me that there are no two-seater F-35s. Duh.
Maybe she was just simplifying “solo” for the journalist writing the article. I suppose you could argue “solo” implies you’ve been in two-seater training.
F84-F — wow! That’s going way back. The first swept-wing version of the F84. If you can call that “swept.” Did you have the nose- or wing root-inlet?
It must be easy to fly.
.
Similarly, I was monogamous for 31 years to a woman 18 years my junior, but she left this world prematurely in January, and I have found myself unable to learn how to live without her.
I lost a fiancee to breast cancer
and best friend to suicide. They
are still in my thoughts many years
later.
Are we supposed to be happy about this? Turns out the first female Navy combat pilot was not well trained and died in a crash. Diversity strikes again.
Never underestimate the ability of a service ruled by the Secretary of the Navy to put diversity ahead of training and common sense. (Ret Army Officer)
You sure that’s a woman?
Ditto.
Ditto.
The remarks at Fox are about 2/3 in agreement with yours. There are very few kudos to this young woman accomplishing this.
The pioneers frequently die. Lots of men died developing heavier-than-air aircraft 120 years ago. I’m sure we will have inordinately high deaths of women for a while, too.
But, on balance, I’m happy to see women can pursue these flight combat dreams of theirs and I doubt it will seriously degrade our combat ability. Given the difficulties of recruiting top-notch fighter pilots, this may improve our abilities.
Women in front-line combat roles is an entirely different matter, of course.
Possible that it is too strenuous for a woman?
.
This doesn’t look like the same woman. The pictures with her wearing the helmet shows she has a blonde braid. This woman has dark hair and a different nose. Or am I missing something?
Engine inlet in the nose. The RF-84F has wing root inlets.
The nose had the cameras. When I was flying them, they were 14 years old. The F-100 replaced them, by then I had left the unit.
.
You’re very politically correct anyway!
