“You can never own land here,” Mr. Mortensen said, as all land is owned by the government. “In Greenland, you get a right to use the land where you want to build a house, but you can’t buy.”

Well, that’s the current system. Once Greenland is part of the U.S.A., you’ll have private property rights.

Don’t pay your property taxes for three years and then get back to me on who really owns your land.....

Oh yea, try to build something, you needs a thousand approvals from the Zoning NAZIs before you can even put a shovel in the ground. And that is just about everywhere these days.

So yea, tell me about “private property rights” here. At least in Greenland, the government is being honest with you.

Maryland was something like that. Maryland started out s the personal property of the Calvert family, i.e. the Lords Baltimore. When it became one of the United Colonies the ownership went to the colony. For a long while all landholders could get was a hundred year title which required renewal

Not if U.S governing law pertaining to Greenland matches the practice of the U.S. in the 19th century. People had to buy land from the government, which today overwhelming remains the largest owner of land west of the Mississippi.
