CBP to start building border barriers in Arizona wildlife refuges next week
Tucson Sentinel ^ | Aug 14, 2019 | Paul Ingram

The Trump administration is forging ahead with plans to construct new border barriers in wildlife refuges in Southern Arizona, telling a court that one project will begin with the removal of older fencing on Monday (Aug 19)...

"They will be replaced with new bollard wall that will be 30-feet tall and includes a linear ground detection system."...

Tucson Sector Project 2 will begin on August 19 with the removal of two miles of existing pedestrian fence, (director of the Border Wall Program Management Office) Enriquez wrote. That section will be replaced by two miles of new border wall on August 22, and the 45-day project will move "west toward Lukeville."

This is a nice factual article, versus the empty political spin that is most common.

Looks like the Arizona barrier will all be 30 feet tall, with embedded alarms and improved road. 30 feet tall seems to be the new standard going forward.

In addition to this 63 miles worth of segments, Arizona is getting a bunch around Yuma/San Luis (from previous funding) - 10 miles is already done there. Arizona is also getting about 200 new miles covered by Integrated Fixed Towers for constant video surveillance from command centers (and by software), with this year's money. Arizona's total border with Mexico is 262 miles. This will be a spectacular year for upgrading Arizona's border security - pretty much transformed before the election.

Here are the Arizona segments, that are being contested (all with 2019 DoD counter-drug funding, not dependent on the emergency declaration):

U.S. Customs and Border Protection plans to build 63 miles of new border fencing in three wildlife refuges in Southern Arizona.

Under the "Arizona Project area," CBP plans to replace existing pedestrian fencing with a new 30-foot high fence "bollard fence" that includes concrete-filled steel poles placed approximately 4-inches apart, as well as a possible bridge over the San Pedro River.

Tucson Sector Project 1 Will include 38.6 miles along Cabeza Prieta National Wildlife Refuge and Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument. Along 15.5 miles, the vehicle barrier on along Cabeza Prieta will be replaced with the new 30-foot tall wall. Another section, 23.1 miles will run along Organ Pipe Cactus and replace the vehicle barrier with the 30-foot tall wall.

Construction in this section is expected to begin in early October, after Tucson Project 2 is completed.

Tucson Sector Project 2 Will include 5.1 miles along Organ Pipe National Monument, and will replace "outmoded" pedestrian barriers with 30-foot high fence. This project will begin with 2-mile segment on August 19, 2019, with new panels installed August 22. Project is expected to take 45 days.

Tucson Sector Project 3 Includes three locations, totaling 19.7 miles, including a 0.3-mile portion along the San Pedro Riparian National Conservation Area that will fill the "gap in existing fencing around the San Pedro River, including installation of a bridge over the river." This project will not begin until early October or "after" because the agency is still completing surveys and designs.

The wildlife will probably appreciate fewer (or no) illegals trashing their habitat.

“10 miles is already done there.”

Some would say, ten miles ain’t nothin. To those I say...

Go out side right now and start walking down the road imagining that you are walking along this border wall/fence.
After ten miles, let me know if you still think ten miles is “nothin”.

Here is what the new ten miles looks like, on the South of Yuma (San Luis). So new, it does not have concertina strung on it yet. The reinforced concrete foundation is deep, alarmed with embedded sensors, and under video surveillance.

This is the area where last year, 376 illegals, the largest single group ever (at that time) came though the old barrier by scooping a hasty tunnel underneath.

Looking through the Government’s court filing, they seem to be telling the judge that 225 miles are planned in Arizona over two years - out of a 262 mile border.

If so, next year will include contracting for a lot previously unfenced areas.

This is a serious program. We are just entering the full scale construction phase - a steep ramp up in crews working as we go through this Fall.

Thanks for your excellent updates on the walls being built versus the Pearl Cluthers on FR, who love illegals and democrats.
