Michigan - no inspection.

Ohio - one inspection when you bring your car into the state to register it. In my case an 80-something lady from the courthouse came out and made sure it had four tires and working headlights.

If people are not engaging in criminal behavior, then why should police pull them over?

So they can provide for their own job security with a low level of risk.

> PA State Police were too busy to respond quickly to crimes which were unlikely to produce revenue for the state. <

A friend of mine lives literally right next door to a PA State Police barracks. Well, one day he comes home from work to find his back door wide open. So he runs over to the barracks for help. “Call the township police” says one of the troopers.

I would imagine half of Pennsylvania didn’t renew their registration due to this change. Give people an inch....

I’m confident Jozwiak has the REVENUE DEPARTMENT is certainly on his side. Most traffic stops are aimed at potential revenue gathering. IMHO

I work on the Navy base in Norfolk, VA. VA has you put a year and month sticker on you license plates (2 plates). One morning I got turned away from the gate because the guard mistook MAY sticker for MAR and told me my tags were expired.

And state safety inspections! Who is getting rich from that boondoggle? You can’t do it by appointment, and last February I dropped my truck off on Friday and they didn’t get to it until Sunday. It’s insane what one has to go through to get inspected.

There is a legitimate issue in that more and more small townships and boroughs are shutting down their police departments to save money and tossing the burden of policing their town on the State Police.

So many have done so that it’s raised legitimate arguments about cost-dumping and whether or not the State Police are prepared to handle that workload.

LOL.... most people never put them on anyway. With today’s auto plate readers in police cars tied to registration data bases, they don’t need the old stickers.

In Kansas, half the residents find a way to tag in Texas. OK, maybe not half, probably 20%.

In AZ, we have to pay registration fees each year based on how old/new the car is. That can add up to several hundred dollars if the car is newer. On top of that, there’s emissions testing/fees. The emission testing is every other year.

Back when PA had insanely expensive no-fault insurance there was a whole town in Erie County where all of the cars had Ohio plates.

“With Republicans like Jozwiak, who needs Democrats?”

The republicans in Alabama have raised the gas tax and passed a law that truck drivers must go through “human trafficking” training. WTF?

I doubt that it is anywhere close to half. They punch your license plate number into their onboard computer and know within a matter of seconds.

As the legislator/retired trooper stated, they just need an extra visual aid for an excuse to pull you over to find some violation which might bring in more revenue to the state.

Of course, he didn't use those words, but that is what he means.

FWIW, I do drive out of state from time to time. Maryland, Ohio and West Virginia are all within an hour. An old sticker on a PA license (even though no longer required) is a cop magnet. So I solved that problem by getting a new plate from a fraternal organization to which I belong with whom PennDOT has an agreement-- the state gets a cut of the donation. No old stickers = no cop magnet. Well worth the price.

This guy’s my congressman & I love him!
He could be a freeper!! He’s dead on 99% of the time!
As a PA resident, i hate there’s NO sticker. Don’t care how antiquated it seems!
If we had more Barry Jowziaks, most here would have a lot less to be worried about!
Btw-if PA Republican Party had any balls, they’d held this clown of a governor to make cuts and we would have never had stickerless registration!!

The article being commented on shows the sticker as being affixed to the license plate.

In any event, I can’t see this being necessary in the computer age.

These stickers, and the current license plate readers, were a great way for cops to avoid allegations of racism when pulling cars over. When the defendant insists he/she was pulled over for “driving while black”, the cop simply points out that the car isn’t registered - end of racist conspiracy theory. This was an issue here in NJ, and now cops simply let the urban populations tear each other apart; it is about containment rather than fixing anything.
